Emily's Journey

Emily's journey started on Friday 8 January, 2010 where it was discovered that after some time of being unwell, her body has actually been fighting cancer. This site is dedicated to those who want to encourage her through this journey.

Emily

Hi everyone,

Kath has asked me to keep you all updated with Emily’s situation.  I will just relay the information that Kath is happy to share and will do my best to get it right.  I will try and keep it relatively factual.
Last night (Fri 8 Jan) Emily was diagnosed with Cancer.  As many of you know she has been unwell for about 8 weeks.  Kath and Gary are devastated.
Emily had a CT Scan this morning at 10am.  Gary went in with her.  Afterwards the doctor spoke with Kath and Gary and explained the findings.  Emily has a tumour which is 7cm X 6cm on her kidney (the size of a peach).  It is starting to wrap around other vessels which could make it difficult to operate on.  Her bowel is clear.  The cancer may also be in her bones.  The Doctor said the positive thing is her young age.
Emily slept well last night and seemed to be free of the pain she has been feeling for several weeks.  This has given Katherine some relief as she has also been able to get some sleep.
She is having a biopsy on Monday and will go under general anesthetic.  They will then know what type of cancer it is and make a plan of action from there which will probably involve Chemo.  Please feel free to inform anyone of this site who would like to be updated.
Katherine has asked for no visitors until they settle into a routine.  She is getting comfort from the text messages everyone is sending her so please continue to do so.  She is not necessarily replying at the moment due to the volume of messages.  She has her family around her and everyone is taking very good care of her, Gary, Jack and Charlotte.  Kath is really grateful to the hospital staff who are taking great care of Emily.
If anyone wants any ideas of how they can help please contact Michelle on either [email protected] or 322 8992 home or  021 449 045 cell.  I will provide another update after the biopsy results on Monday.
Vanessa

How devastated we are to hear of this truly shocking news. I have not told Willow of this yet as I know that this will really rock her world. She has a great fondness of Emily and she loved doing Kapa Haka with her. We would love to visit when the time is right for you and please let us know of anything that we can do for you. Thank you for the blog it goes someone to helping us understand but in no way comprehend what you are currently going through.

Our deepest love to you all and I know if anyone can beat this terrible thing it will be you guys

We have only met Emily on one occasion and that was at Jennifer’s & Chrissie’s Civil Union. It was wonderful to see the importance Emily placed in being the ring bearer. To see her playing later, wearing her fairy wings brought smiles to many faces.
We were gutted when Jennifer informed us of Emily’s condition and of the severity of it. Tears were shed and prayers were said.
Emily’s name has been and will be placed on the prayer roll at L.D.S. Temples in Hamilton, Melbourne,Brisbane and Salt Lake City.
Miracles do happen and they are brought about through love and faith.
Our prayers are for Emily, her parents , Her family and all those involved in Emily’s wellbeing.
God bless you all,
Peter & Jane Emerson

There are no words that can help, no way of communicating the depth of emotion one feels when reading this blog.
What we can acknowledge is the strength of the human spirit, the amazing way we find strength as parents to cope and do what must be done.
You are blessed with wonderful, caring family support and you will find a way to get through this.
Emily is an angel and a fighter and we pray God’s grace will be with her as she faces the challenges of overcoming this horrid invader. We pray God’s peace and strength will be with Kath and Gary as they face each day.
